I discovered Justine's world by accident amidst one of my blog-hopping rampages. And I'm truly glad I did. This article gave me one of those crazy 'A-ha!' moments, where I fell in love with every word on the screen while frantically nodding my head in recognition of where I am with life as I know it.
It began with this opening statement:
"Accept that you’ve got the creative urge and it’s never going to go away. Make friends with it. Drink some tequila if you need to."
In moderation, of course. And more:
"There is a gap between where you are and where you want to be. The only way to get where you want to be is to close the gap, through practice and learning and practice and feedback and more practice. There are no shortcuts, unless of course they were built by aliens. This is doubtful."
Tequila and aliens aside, I've had plenty of opportunity to embrace imperfection! I find now that it's not so scary... it's kind of attractive.
While you're over there, I recommend another article by Justine about the things that smart women know:
"Smart women know that perfection is annoying and overrated"... and that is just a teaser. Go and be amazed by Ms. Musk, just as I am.
My second Friday find is...
A few key themes here: imperfection; non-conformity; reaching personal goals despite the views of others. It seems Chris Guillegeau is all over this with his 'Unconventional Strategies for Life, Work and Travel'.
His philosophy begins with:
"You don’t have to live your life the way other people expect you to."
Simple. I like it. And then there is The Tower, which is 'all about crafting a life around daily creative work'.
